Helen Benda, a Smiths Falls' resident, is a most accomplished portrait artist. Working in oils, she has studied through Toronto with several artists since 1959. Portrait studies include the Ottawa School of Art and with Daniel Green of the N.Y. Art Students League.
Other interests include acrylic painting of other subject matter.
Helen has taught children workshops, teenager and adult art classes, and is a ‘Teacher of Adults’ graduate.
She has exhibited at Heritage House Museum, Encounters Art Gallery, the Balderson Cheese Factory, the Ottawa Art Association , the Ottawa Credit Union, in many local exhibitions, and, has been a donor to the Big Brothers Art Auctions. Her paintings hang in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, New Brunswick, Florida and Germany.
Helen sums up her love of art by saying, "When I paint a portrait I try to capture the personality of my subject. People are very important to me. They are intriguing in uniqueness and individuality and I try to capture that spirit in oils."
Helen really does capture the soul of her subject. Merely to look at one of her exquisite portraits is to see this. She loves to paint people, and she paints people with love........
