 [Watercolour and Acrylic]
Wayne Williams is a self-taught artist who incorporates colourful places and people from his travel experiences into his art. Many of his paintings evoke memories of traveling in Italy: Venice, Verona, Padua, Cinque Terre, Lucca and Assisi. Other locations include northern Europe, such as Paris, France; Stockholm, Sweden; Bruges, Belgium; and Talinn, Estonia.
Watercolour, with its luminous quality, is the perfect medium to evoke a distinctive impression of a location and its people or a scene in nature. Some of Wayne’s paintings are created on traditional watercolour paper, surrounded by double mats and framed behind glass. However, some other paintings are unique, mixed media experiments using linen canvas that has been treated with gesso (an acrylic), often producing unusual textures. Finally, those canvases are varnished and framed without glass or mats.
As a long-time resident of Perth, Ontario, Wayne also paints scenes from in and around that picturesque town. He is a member of the Rideau Lakes Artists’ Association.
